The Tree

I just couldn’t ignore this vivid green tree in a gorge here in Crete.
We lost quite a few trees in the storm here in Aberdeenshire the other night…
The orange paint on this tree means that this tree is scheduled for execution. This tree and trees like it are suffering from Dutch Elm Disease and are dying anyway. The good news is that the trees, once executed, are cut up and left on the ground to slowly rot away and, importantly, become home for all sorts of tiny creatures. We’re hoping that more trees will be planted to replaced the now condemned trees.

Bullying, corruption, lying, law-breaking, greed, self-interest, and generally taking the piss. All part of the UK Conservative Party’s hopeless agenda. An uncaring and selfish bunch of hypocrites. There is never a stump grinder when you really need one!
More Photoshop Neural Filter tomfoolery (probably a bit over the top).
Don’t you just wish the British Conservative Party would just shrivel up and disintegrate (and NEVER come back!)
People are always grabbing hold of it…

We’re firmly back in Scotland!
We were up in the Scottish hills this morning where a number of trees have been cut down (to allow others more space to grow we think). We noticed this strange wooden-like growth (shaped like a toilet seat) growing around the top of the tree stump. Appropriately brown! We’re not quite sure what causes this growth. It is solid and is not some kind of fungus. We noticed the ‘toilet seat’ on several tree stumps. What are these growths? That question has got us stumped too. Anyone know the answer?
Old, bent and twisted – a bit like the photographer who took this photograph!

Now a nice home for insects and, unfortunately for the insects, a feeding station for woodpeckers…

Rotten to the core and completely stumped…
We’ve noticed quite a few trees up here in the Cairngorms that appear to be dying. Disease? Polution? We’re not sure but a pity to see trees dying off…

A strange spotted mushroom found in the Cairgorms today whilst out on a dog walk. No sign of any red squirrels yet…
Image inspired by John in Nevada who does interesting things with his images.
Broken beyond repair…(abandon all hope!!!)
The veins (?) in the leaf look like a city roadmap.

Moral: never take a dog with you when you are recording soundscapes!
Please click on the Soundcloud link below, close your eyes and join me for a walk in the woods at Hemmeland – a wooded area close to Monnickendam, Noord Holland, Netherlands.
Hemmeland is a great place to see nature, picnics, sunbathing and for dog walks. At Hemmeland you’ll find a mixture of wildlife, flowers, plants, trees, beaches and much more. Â There was a northeasterly wind today blowing at between 10-15 Knots. You’ll hear quite a lot of noise generated as the wind blew through the treetops. Â You’ll also hear the dog sniffing around.
There’s not too much about Hemmeland on the Internet but you can look at my photographs of Hemmeland by clicking on this link to visit my Adobe Spark Hemmeland page (scroll down when you get there)

On a warm summer’s day, the Hortus Botanicus (Botanical Gardens) Amsterdam is such an oasis of peace and tranquility. Somewhere to catch your breath…

Whilst taking the dog for a walk this morning I took a photograph of some tree bark. Â Great for backgrounds and overlays (see next post). Â And then I started to wonder. Â Why is bark so wrinkly?

For some reason this high-rise fungi was growing up the side of just one tree in the entire forest. Â I took the photograph yesterday, by this morning the fungi had all died back. Strange is the life of fungi.
