The Backpackers

Photographs, Video and Stuff
A ship’s figurehead seen at the Amsterdam Maritime Museum. Not the sort of thing you would get away with in these enlightened times!
The person who invents a rope that won’t tangle will make a fortune!
Rusting and covered in graffiti. A sad old submarine. Periscope down…
They just don’t make them like they used to! This is Radio Veronica!
Anyone who knows me knows I have a soft spot for tugs (and old tug man!)
I wonder if the Mövenpick Hotel is ready for this guest!?
People who know me know that I used to be a ‘Tug Man’ and worked on a number of deep sea salvage tugs – a long time ago. I’ve always had a soft spot for tugs! Here’s one that has just arrived in Monnickendam.

Crossing the North Sea between the UK and Holland on the daily car ferry. A little windy.
Here is a very rare site in Holland, a marina without any boats.
The reason is the marina here at Hemmeland (Monnickendam) is being dredged to make the water deeper for the boats that are normally here. All the boats that are normally parked here have been moved out of the way so the dredger can do its work.
Just can’t get enough gears these days…
Here’s a flashback to 2015 – Amsterdam Sail. The next Amsterdam Sail will be in 2020.
WARNING. Some brief (very brief) nudity!

It’s that time of year here at the marina when people wrap up their boats for the winter.
The Dutch tug Tromp spotted in the Hemmeland Marina today. Built in the 1920s and still going strong…

Here are some folk who are well and truly up Dubai’s famous Creek.
Spring is almost upon us and they’re getting ready at our marina to start putting boats back in the water ready for the season…

Walking around Monnickendam today with the big lens
All peaceful in Monnickendam harbour this morning. The perfect day for whipping out the long lens!
