People still use them?
This telephone is in a booth directly outside the harbour office in MacDuff. I’ve never seen anyone use this telephone. I think they really are things of the past. We still have the old red telephone boxes here and there…
I’ve seen the red boxes in many photos from the UK, some are repurposed as mini libraries or used for those things you shock a heart with to restart it.
I heard that and, more recently, people have been using them as mini-food banks for homeless people. It seems that, around the world, people are finding ways to deal with this virus. Meanwhile the politicians, most of them, seem to be running around like headless chickens and they’re making things worse, not better. Having said that, your chap, Mr Cuomo seems (as seen from here) to be the voice of reason and good sense. Our (UK) politicians – most unimpressive.
Hello John. A sad reflection on our society in the UK now. No respect: https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/gallery/2020/apr/27/london-phone-boxes-in-pictures
This is so sad Richard, why the hell do people do this!! The same thing happens here, there’s an old ATT pay phone up the street from me, the receiver is torn off and missing, the rest has graffiti all over it. Scumbags are everywhere…
It’s hard to know John. Last week, the lighthouse at MacDuff Harbour was broken in to. The vandals smashed the light, broke windows and cut cables. Just senseless vandalism. The purpose of the lighthouse is to guide trawlers into the harbour at night and the light (and angle of the light) prevents trawlers going up onto the rocks. In other words, these people put lives at risk.
