A little bit of Derbyshire
The Dry Stone Wall
These stone walls seem to be everywhere in England. I want to visit!
Thanks John. You can go on a course to teach you how to build these walls. I’ve heard it said that the builders leave little mementoes buried in the wall. When the walls are repaired (every hundred years or so), the repairer will find the little time capsule waiting for him. The walls date back over 3,000 years (but in British terms that’s pretty much a new build!). If you really want to get your hands dirty and give wall building a go, here’s the site: http://www.dswa.org.uk – back breaking work I expect.
Thanks for the link, I learned lots from the website. I’m glad these walls are being maintained as they should be!!
I’ll be looking out for some dry stone walls crossing the deserts of Nevada! R
