Somebody once told me it was good to have three things in a photograph and so here we go: a church, a fairground ride and a girl. Job done!
Job done indeed. Beautiful clear shot and I love the ornate detail in the merry-go-round. Thank you for the trifecta philosophy relating to composition…..sadly my photographs too often omit both the church and the fairground ride. I have room for improvement.
Many thanks. I used to try and abide by these rules – three things in shot, rule of thirds, the golden ration, the end of nose eye thing. I then decided to give up striving for what other people thought (especially photographic judges) and just did my own thing. I work on the basis that there is no such thing as a bad photograph. If somebody likes it, it is a good photograph! Photography is a joy and we all enjoy it in different ways and we all have different tastes. When I was in Africa, children used to jump in front of me when they saw the camera and shout “snap me! snap me! – and so I guess I’m just a happy snapper!!
Your joy of photography shows in all of your posts and I like your thoughts about the rule of thirds. Many of my favourite shots don’t comply with ‘rules’ but I love them because they remind me of the time and place and perhaps something else that occurred which is not captured by the photograph.
Thank you. I’m just too old to change my whacky ways. But interesting to watch what the young generation are doing with photography, video, and art generally. And, because everyone can be a photographer now, fascinating to see what people are doing. I think the next big break through will be 3D holographic photography. That might just shake things up a bit! Richard
I think I know how you feel. My 7th decade is almost completely down the gurgler. Photography is only a recent hobby of mine so I look forward to seeing whatever new technology will bring.
