After the Brexit vote in my own country, the American elections and the forthcoming elections in Europe, I was searching for an image which best summed up our systems of democracy. Here it is. The Democracy Tree. Well and truly broken.
The Good Ship Lucie. Our home.
Our dog, Katy, on sit-down strike after deciding today is not the day on which she would like to go for a walk (normally her favourite thing). Who understands dogs?
I’m really enjoying Cathy Callan’s artwork.
Cathy’s site is here:http://cathycallan.com/artist.htm
The grandsons take charge of 30 tonnes of barge (which is also our home!)
This photograph was taken in October 2012 when the keel for our boat, Lucie, was laid. We have now been living on Lucie for over 3 years! We’ve just moved to our winter berth in Holland.
Really enjoying the art of Leonid Afremov here.
Another attempt to get this image posted (WordPress fighting back!)
We live on a boat and people often ask us what happens to the human waste. Here’s the answer. The waste is sucked out of the boat’s holding tank and is taken away to be disposed of correctly (and legally). Devices such as these are known as [delightfully] ‘poo suckers.’ The poo sucking process is quick, easy and hygienic. The human waste in the holding tanks is often known as ‘black water’. Water from the shower and sinks is known as ‘grey water’.
A blue tit with a nest in a cigarette waste bin. A tit with a smoking habit!!!
For those who fancy a puff, snort, sniff or chew….
People seem to have lost their way today. This will get you home. Steady as she goes!
The Political Machine – running on empty?
Democracy really is the least worst system!
It’s that time of year here at the marina when people wrap up their boats for the winter.
No idea what these flowers are called but I’m sure the bees like them…
No idea what these flowers are called but found them growing in the forest…
Cute toadstools growing on a rotting log. A more inquisitive man would find out what they are called…
For some reason this high-rise fungi was growing up the side of just one tree in the entire forest. I took the photograph yesterday, by this morning the fungi had all died back. Strange is the life of fungi.
I’ve been out and about today taking photographs of fungi at Hemmeland (not far from Amsterdam and a delightfully secret bit of the Netherlands)
I know…….my spelling often goes wrong but life really can be like this on a bad day:
What happens when your run a seemingly boring image through Photoshop, Topaz Labs Simplify and FX Photo Studio (the original image below). I create a lot of my backgrounds this way. All done in about 5 minutes. Two images if you are viewing on Reader.
The most beautiful drone images I have seen…just had to share….

Our dog, Katy checks out the beach at Hemmeland (The Netherlands)
Couldn’t resist sharing this excellent image….
Cartoon by Richard Newton (1777–1798), an English caricaturist who drew cartoons until typhus got him aged just 21. The poster below is all to do with our King George III (see The Madness of King George) who upset the Americans so much, they declared independence (over simplification I know) but, Americans….we were only joking!
Image courtesy of Wikipedia. A spot of gaseous treason I think!
Are we starting to feel the wind of change blowing through our country again I wonder?
My grandson – 15 years old today!
It is the time of the year in our marina when the boats are lifted out of the water for the winter.
Kind of strange…..
